All About Jan Channon Flowers

Jan Channon on 31st Jul 2014

We began Jan Channon Flowers about four years ago. My father was a florist in Boston and his shop still stands today in Newton Center, called the Flower Bouquet. Bill Owlick was my Dad and he was well known in Boston for providing his customers with absolutely stunning special events. I remember as a child going with him to set up the churches and synagogues. In those days things would be done up to the nines and I still have a book filled with the lovely and extensive notes he received from brides and their mothers who waxed eloquently about what a special day their wedding was due in large part to the beautiful designs from The Flower Bouquet.

The flower business is a tough business and my Dad never wanted me to go into the family business. I got a Master's Degree in Public Health with an emphasis in planning for health care and then spent about 15 years working in the field of hospital strategic planning and health care marketing. After intermittently taking some time off to raise my children, I began to reflect on how I wanted to spend the next chapter of my life. Somehow the flower biz kept calling me. I took a refresher class in floral design and had some ideas about the type of business I wanted to develop.

So I launched Jan Channon Flowers with the mission of providing the freshest in flowers and designs for all the North Shore communities. This year we also established a relationship with a delivery service and we are now capable of delivering into the Chicago metro area as well.

You should call us if you want a very special gift at any time for an occasion--whether that is a birthday, anniversary, get well. Our designs will wow them for the unique selection of botanicals as well as how fresh our flowers are. One of the things I learned from my Dad was how important the selection of flowers is. I always shop the floral markets and never delegate that. I hand select all my flowers each week assuring the quality and freshness that my customers expect. And we stand behind that.

Sometimes people who know us ask if we do weddings. At this time we have a small custom workshop that focuses on gifts and medium sized parties. Our niche is your special garden party, an engagement party or shower. We work parties of between 20-30 designs. Last year we worked at the Chicago Botanic Garden providing flowers for a lovely engagement brunch at the McGinley Pavillion. They were so happy with our work that they called us to design flowers when they opened their new venue the Pullman Garden.
